How Launching a Podcast Has Impacted My Business

A Look Back at the First 25 Episodes & What’s Ahead

Today’s episode is a little different.  I typically cover very tactical, step-by-step information on this podcast, but today, we’re getting personal.

I launched my podcast back in August of 2018. Since then, I’ve experienced a lot, learned a lot, and had a few wonderful surprises.  With all the ups, there were also a few mistakes and realizations that I chose to see as learning opportunities.

IN THIS PODCAST, WE’RE LOOKING BACK TO LOOK AHEAD

I’ve been a fan of podcasts for years now . . . and not just the ones about business.  When Erik, Coco, and I go on long road trips, Erik usually finds us a good mystery genre podcast to listen to.  When I’m on my own, I turn to a few comedies and, of course, my go-to business podcasts like Amy Porterfield’s Online Marketing Made Easy or Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income.

So when Pat Flynn came out with his podcast course a few years ago, I jumped on it.  But then, I waited, and waited, and—oh, yes—I waited some more, because I got stuck on the island of self-doubt.

BEFORE I COULD LEAVE THAT ISLAND, I HAD TO GET CLEAR ON ALL MY W’S:

  • WHY I wanted to start a Podcast
  • WHO would that podcast be for, and
  • WHAT was it going to be about

Holy smokes, I thought. That’s a lot to figure out. So I got stranded on that island a bit longer.  However, once I finally made a commitment and decided to go all in, it was all hands on deck, and I never looked back. Well, almost never.

I launched my podcast The Pursuit of Online Entrepreneurship in August of 2018 with a lot of optimism, strategy, and a large welcoming committee. It’s been a great journey so far—not without its bumps, but I’m getting ahead of myself here.

I always knew I wanted to do a look back after MY FIRST 25 PODCAST EPISODES.  Okay, I know, it’s been 26 episodes so far. But hey, it still counts.

I like to measure performance, expectations, what’s working, what’s not, and what I’d like to share to help you avoid some of the mistakes I made.  That’s what this episode is all about. A look back to look ahead.

WHAT I COVERED:

  • Why I started this podcast
  • What impact I thought a podcast would have on my business
  • What has actually happened
  • Why I took a two-month break from creating or publishing episodes
  • A few mistakes I made that I’d like you to help you avoid
  • What’s next? What you can expect from the podcast in the future

PLUS SOME TIPS IN CASE YOU’RE THINKING ABOUT STARTING A PODCAST
(OR YOU’RE IN THE MIDDLE OF LAUNCHING ONE)
